Her Quiet Light

A quiet life of faith can shine through ordinary service, patient endurance, and the steady influence of a godly example.

Sister Olivia Keene wrote this poem for our magazine last school year while attending the Christadelphian Secondary School in Ontario. In it, she reflects on how quietness itself, though sometimes looked down upon today, can sometimes be truly helpful and a meaningful service.

A Poem About the Quiet Sister

Her light is soft
It’s unyielding, you can’t deny
With a gentle hand
She wipes the tearful eye:
She holds my hand
She never says goodbye.
Without a word, she comforts
On her we all rely.

Her quiet light
On it we all depend.
And if she were to leave us
We would be left
with a gaping void
That no one would be sure
how to fill.
Even though she isn’t loud,
Her voice never raised.
Those who listen to her wisdom
Often think again.

For all her words are a
Repeat of Scripture
The verses she is always reading,
Meditating,
Pondering.
Sometimes she sits alone,
Only approached by those
Who know her.
She sits like a doe,
Peaceful, knowing
Gentle.

The word is in her respondent heart.
Her very life is given in service to
her brothers, sisters
And most of all,
Christ.

Her light is soft and gentle.
Persistent and comforting.
