In the following interview on October 18, 2021, Bro. Levi Gelineau interviews Sis. Elle Wilson about her experience in founding the Southern Ontario Combined Christadelphian Choir (SOCCC).

How has spiritual music impacted your own mental or emotional health, your state of well-being? I invite you to take a moment to reflect on this question before diving into the beautiful and honest responses that follow, all written by Christadelphian youth.

We want to help people find music that is helpful for them in their walk and hopefully encourage the continued production and use of music in our community and in our services.

What songs do you return to when you are in need? What songs restore peace to your soul whenever you recall them?

Are there still opportunities to praise God through song, even when we are isolated or unable to assemble? What can we do?

The Seventh Day is about reflection of God’s glory in Creation, with music and poetry, and giving that back to each other and God and Christ.

My son, Bro. Grant Anderson, suffered a severe traumatic brain injury in 2007. He was in a coma for six weeks. We were told to let him die because at best he would be a vegetable.

I grew up playing piano and guitar. By the age of 14, I had stopped attending anything to do with the ecclesia, and I was off following my other interests. For those four or five years I did not have any real connection with Christadelphian meetings—my parents both went to the ecclesia regularly, but I had always found it so boring!

Music is a God-given tool for our spiritual walk. We can use it to express adoration and thankfulness to God and to draw us closer to Him in reverent and heartfelt communion. Music can motivate, teach, comfort, exhort, remind and inspire.

When I was younger, I had the opportunity to travel to many countries and stay with Christadelphians along the way.

Hymn singing in Mozambique is raw and powerful. Although elders who can call songs are respected for their musical abilities, there is no sense of performance.
