The account of the death of Uzzah can be an uncomfortable read. All he did was stick his hand out and the ark from falling off the cart upon which it was being carried. Yes, they weren’t following the prescribed way of carrying the ark, but isn’t striking Uzzah with a death blow a little harsh?

The prophecy of Ezekiel is a hard book to read. A lot of it details the iniquity of the people and the reason why God brought judgments upon them. But, as with many similar prophecies in Scripture, amid the destruction, there is hope.

God should be our singular priority. Everything else in our lives needs to fall under that umbrella: education, careers, hobbies, personal goals. All these things need to be viewed under the aegis of God’s plan and purpose. But how? It’s such an easy concept… but the execution is our entire struggle against the flesh.

From the bottom of my heart I thank the brothers and sisters who sat with my father and permitted him to have a heart-to-heart chat. While there is only one who can change lives, and that is our Lord, our role is to support one another, to love, and to listen.

Proof-texting, where we come already armed with answers, can be like trying to fit a square peg into a round hole. Bible study should be about discovery.
