Following is an excerpt of an exhortation given nearly 100 years ago, dealing with an issue that continues to this day—the issue of intolerance. This was shared in North America by Bro. Harry Tennant (Watford, UK) in 1989, as part of an Ecclesial Eldership study day. ~ Editor

Holiness requires that we think differently about ourselves. It demands we consider our own motivations and actions.

Jesus Christ has all the answers for our understanding of the Scriptures.

Humans are creatures of habit. The biggest determining factor of how we will behave is how we have responded in the past. This can be a good or a bad thing.

We should keep awake at all times. We are in end times.

In the first part of this article of this series, we considered the civil war between Israel and Benjamin in Judges 20-21. We noted that Israel continued routing Benjamin until almost the entire tribe was wiped out. Was this really the right thing to do? We’ll consider this question and continue with the theme of how we can achieve unity amongst God’s holy people.

Jesus knew it was time to leave the comfort of Martha and Mary’s home.

Judges 19-21 tell of a horrific civil war involving the Benjaminites: how it started, how it was conducted and how Israel recovered from it. Because the story is so unpleasant, it is easy to read it dutifully and then move on. Yet we are told “whatever things were written before were written for our learning.” (Rom 15:4).

We have a great deal in common with our shared faith, but we are not identical in personality or outlook. There were 153 great fish in the net, and some were mighty strange fish indeed.

A living faith, however, compels us to challenge the behaviors, habits and traditions in our lives to ensure they serve us in our service to God, Jesus and our brothers and sisters in Christ.

Have you ever doubted if there really is a God? If your answer is “no", that’s awesome. I hope you never have a time when you need to look into why it’s worth believing in God. I hope this remains a trivial subject for you forever.
